Agroittica Lombarda SpA: story

In the 70s the partners of a steelworks in Viadana di Calvisano realized that they could use the waters used to cool the steel in a perfectly ecological way: they created an avant-garde fish farm.
Using a simple heat exchanger the surplus heat of the steel process was transferred to the cool resurgent waters, thus obtaining the perfect habitat for some species of valuable fish among which were the White Sturgeon of the Pacific (Acipenser Transmontanus).
This innovative application was to lead to the creation, in the following decades, of an exemplary system of modern aquaculture covering 55 hectares, a model of avant-garde ecology, which achieved worldwide recognition.
The strengths of Agroittica Lombarda lie in a processing plant which manages to make use of the most advanced technology, the contribution of skilled manual ability, very careful control of the production row and the continual and constant search for innovation.
